FROM PROVENCE TO PARIS — PLACES WE KNOW PERSONALLY.
At Le Jas des Parpaillous we only recommend what we actually know. What follows are family addresses and good local places — the ones we send our own friends to.
Le Maris Apart - our recommendations in Paris
After the Sorgue and the cicadas, Paris cobblestones. In the Marais, two self-contained apartments carry on the family venture: the same standard of comfort, the same care taken over guests, a different setting altogether. A third and larger one opens up now and then over towards Bastille.
These are short lets in the 4th arrondissement, between the Place des Vosges and the Place de la Bastille. It is village life in the middle of Paris: galleries, markets, cafés and shops are all within walking distance, and the métro does the rest.
The contemporary loft
Le Marais · 45 m² · sleeps 2
An open volume under almost four metres of ceiling, a mezzanine sleeping area and tall windows onto a private courtyard: contemporary design settled into 17thth -century architecture without ever covering it over.
A short walk from the Place des Vosges: step out of the building and you are already in the Marais — galleries, cafés, shops and markets all on foot.
Portable air conditioning for summer nights. The bathroom is compact, with a shower.
The former artist's studio
Le Marais · 29 m² · sleeps 2
A former studio with high ceilings on the ground floor of an Art Deco building, opening directly onto a private courtyard. Mezzanine sleeping area, large living room, fitted kitchen and a bathroom with a generous shower.
No air conditioning: the ground floor and the courtyard keep it cool.
The Bastille Apartment
Bastille area · 64 m² · a few dates a year
Our son's apartment, which they let only while they are away. One bedroom, a study, a large open living room and kitchen, a bathroom with a bath (and shower attachment) and a separate WC. Portable air conditioning for summer nights.
Dates are scarce — write to them well in advance.
The Marais and Bastille are neighbours: a quarter of an hour on foot separates the three addresses. Gare de Lyon is ten minutes away, which makes it easy to pair a few days in Paris with a week in Provence.
In all three apartments: high-speed Wi-Fi · smart TV · Nespresso machine · fitted kitchen
